Monthly Media: July 2026 Wrap-up
Welcome to another monthly wrap-up! Time sure seems to be passing by real fast lately. Most of the media I consumed this month was concentrated at the beginning and the end of the month.
Games
- What Body | First time
- I can't remember how I found this game but I was intrigued by the title so I played. It's a really silly 20 second game with three endings. There's just one thing to do, hide the body!
- The art is really cute and this silly game made me curious about what else the creator made. I would say their brand is femboys doing messed up things which is right up my alley.
- Special Order | First time
- Like the previous game, this one has a cute character doing morally abhorrent (albeit legal in their world?) things. I DO NOT recommend this game if proper grammar and moral purity are a must. Also when I say femboys I mean shota, so if you're not into/against that then you know what not to do.
- For me, the fact that author put all of this effort to make a game outside of their first language is pretty dang amazing. I aspire to be this "cringe and free" with my art.
- The plot twist in this game was frigging wow and it made me want to play more games from this creator. Fucked up femboys ftw.
- If you do decide to try this game, I feel responsible to share come content warnings that you won't find anywhere in the game nor its description: non-graphic depictions of violence (murder), depictions of major depression and suicidal ideation. It's a really depressing game made with love.
- You're Just Imagining It | First time
- Last month, I began following npckc's personal site, Tiny Wanderer, so I decided to try out one of their games. This is not their happiest game and it's clearly stated in the description and main screen. It's a simulation for having a chronic illness and the struggle to seek a diagnosis.
- This little game motivated to seek more little games made with love that are deeply personal to the creator, not only to entertain. I think anyone who distrusts the medical system will feel something when playing in this game. In my single playthrough, it took me six years to get a diagnosis. It's a really well made game. It's got music, cute art, and harrowing dialogue. Feel like this whole month has been about other people's art helping me work through things.
- Remember 11 | Rewatch (Let's Play)
- Finally, after fifteen years I FINISHED THIS GAME!!! The original copy I played had the end of some route corrupted so I couldn't finish it. I didn't feel like I was in a hurry so I let time pass. Yeah, pfft, this long, huh?
- Anyways, I finally finished experiencing this game! The last of the Infinity series! Incomplete as all hell due to the company's financial issues and who know what else!
- The let's player I experienced this with was really thorough and read all the notes for the parts of the game that weren't included. They had also played all the previous games so I felt I was in good hands. Not sure about anyone else but this is my standard of a let's player.
- Did I like this game? Was the fifteen year wait worth it? Would I recommend it? I still don't have answer to these questions. What stuck out to me from Remember 11 all these years was the gender fuckery and sci-fi. As I said, it's an incomplete game so as a fan of the Infinity series and sci-fi, this whole rewatch felt like a form of duty than entertainment. There are many elements that I really liked, strongly disliked, and felt lukewarm about because they weren't included. Despite that, I can't deny the influence this game has had in my development. While I grew up admiring Satoru's precise and structured thinking, as an adult, I gained a lot of respect for Kokoro's courage and femininity. Regardless of its quality, this game and the Infinity series as a whole means a lot to me and denying it would be like denying a part of my past.
Series
Live Action
- Star Trek Voyager: Season 4 | First time
- I managed to continue watching this series on streaming. How I missed this crew! There were so many amazing episodes in this season. Seven of Nine instantly became one of my favorite characters. The way she butts heads with Janeway due to her upbringing (or maybe lack thereof) and the way she grew this season brought me so many emotions. I call Seven Janeway's the "social rehabilitation project" (affectionate). They're such a good pair.
- Already started Season 5, woohoo!
Cartoon
- Star Trek The Lower Decks Season 5 (Final) | First time
- It's over. Nooooo!!! This series is such a love letter to the Star Trek franchise. The characters are fun an every season they grow and change into their roles, chasing their dreams. I don't follow news so I don't know any discourse but I think the series ended with its feet on the floor so I applaude it. Might watch the whole thing again as I spent long periods between watches and as I continue watching the live action series I keep noticing little references. I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE!!!
Literature
Books
- The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha/Erha) Vol. 4 | Reread
- So sad to have finished the two volumes I bought. What a cliffhanger! It didn't reach the last chapter of the unofficial translation so there's still more I have read sobs.
- I don't really want to wait for another three years to get another set of volumes so I'll consider speeding up my read of this series. I do have a bunch of other books I have bought that haven't read so mayyyybe I should give some a read first.
Fics (NEW)
- The Tale of Luo Blobhe (18+) by mellicindi | First time
- My favorite SVSSS fanfic author writing weird shit. This feels like they took the prompt of Binghe asking Shen Yuan "would you love me if I was worm?" and this fic being born out of it. The plot is really gripping! Real proud of engaging with transgressive art and giving a metaphorical the middle finger to all puritans and pro-censorship supporters.
- Nocturne for Three Bodies 🎹💦 (18+) by Namabiiru | First time
- I'm starting a new section for fics I've read. This one is from the Katekyo Hitman Reborn fandom. The first fic I've read! Okay not really, I may have read one Gokudera x Yamamoto fic way back when as a curiosity. Can't even remember if I actually finished it, what I thought about it, or if I even liked it. So I'm baptizing this as my first fic!
- Honestly, couldn't have chosen a better introduction. It's everything I wanted. My fave and his issues, long fic (10k+ words), some sweet hurt/comfort. I was having such a terrible night and spending it reading this fic was one of the best decisions I have made. Will not forget about it anytime soon. The author's replies also made me incredibly happy. Fandom is such a lovely and wonderful thing 😭.
- Gotta add Gokudera to my fandom faves post next year (oh my god). Guess I'm collecting emotionally constipated characters now (facepalms).
Here's to more another month full of queer media and silly games!
