Monthly Projects: July 2026
August huh? I'm growing into these monthly summaries. I feel like I didn't do much this month but it's actually a lot.
Web Weaving (earliest -> latest)
- Main site V2
- Around the start of the second week, I was thinking about how messy my main site's sitemap looked and wrote a post where I reorganized all the pages along with the new ones I planned on adding and realized I had given myself the task or reorganize my whole site. While the thought was dreadful, the psychological damage I was getting from the disorganization motivated me to do this. I went ahead and remade my site using 11ty as I have been growing more confident in my experience with it. I also went ahead and added a mobile nav and improved the URLs. Funnily, the part that kicked my ass was finding a way to deploy the site without doing it manually. None of the ways I tried work. So because of the way 11ty creates files, updating my site was a Herculean task that I do not feel like doing. Guess no more site updates till I get the deployment to work.
- Some new pages include Accounts, For Me (where I'm keeping info about Commuity Events I've participated and Logs) and For You sections.
- Worldbuilding and Character template
- There was a day where there was no wifi at home so I spent a couple of hours remaking this template by 44 by 50 into 11ty. It doesn't use Javascript which is the whole purpose to putting it through 11ty. I also made it more mobile responsive. It's not quite there yet with the instructions of my changes so I'm not linking it but it's on my Git account if you really wanna see it.
- Art blog
- This blog has been in the works since April I think. I figured I let it rest long enough and got to tweak the last few details. This blog ended up become just a section of my Tumblr art blog 2018-2019 focusing on fanart. It's also made with 11ty.
- Fic archive V2
- So with the site update, I didn't actually added back the fic archive. This is because I felt it needed to be revamped and doing the same thing twice felt like a waste of time. So after updating my site and taking a break, I took Coyote's Archive of Your Own and built it with 11ty!
- Granted I could have left it as moving the stylesheet to its own file and leave it at that but noooo, I wanted to use loops and metadata and make it all easier to add new fics instead of just copying the template for the thumbnail and adding all the goddamn info. God I love making life harder for myself. Anyways, there's this thing I don't know how to do in 11ty and I stumbled upon the same issue in this project. It was also really hard to do two new things at the same time: learn how the template works and make it work in 11ty. It felt like drawing a circle with one hand and a triangle with the other.
- Fantastic template though. I can't recommend it enough. I chose it because doesn't use JavaScript for the filters and it's got built-in accessibility features. I didn't even change the color scheme because I was so focused on performing reverse engineering with it. I lost ten days of my life on this, please make it worth it and take a look at it!
- Writing hub with Obsidian Bases
- So last month I wrote that I was looking for a Markdown-based writing app. I found Markleaf restrictive and Joplin basically has vendor lock in on mobile I decided to go back to Obsidian, this time using the Bases core plugin. It's been working pretty well! Might try to find a way to sync using Dropbox because I can't allow those drafts to get lost.
Writing (earliest -> latest)
- Fannish 50: Through the Eyes of Others Kidou Yuuto and Personal Identity (ft. some OCs)
- Fannish 50: Kageyama Reiji's Unfulfilled Revenge
- Random Ramblings about RDR2-Inspired Kageyama Fix-it Redemption
- Handcode your first RSS feed with this stupid simple template - hosted on the Big List of Neocities RSS Feeds.
- Sent it for upload right after I finished writing so it sorely needs some editing. That's why I haven't promoted it elsewhere. Sorry for the grammar mistakes in advance!
Community
- Fic Archive V2 (Filters, Mobile-friendly, No JS)
- I made a post about my new fic archive and shared it to the smallweb community.
- KHR Rarepair Week 2026
- I ended up drafting some ideas and started a couple of but I haven't posted anything. Honestly, brainstorming (logged-in users only) was fun in an of itself. I'll take that!
- Songs of Joy and Resistance (Queer Pride and Disability event)
- A user decided to include Disability Pride month so I decided to extent the event. Need to archive my entries on my site.
- Promotional post for Nonbinary Coded Games, a sale event on Steam for games from nonbinary devs, on Pillowfort.
- The event has a website now!
- Ina11 International Pride Prompt-a-thon (Second check in, Wrap up)
- I wrote a drabble (less than 400 words) based on the prompt "cooling off." It's a vent fic and it's only posted on DW atm so I don't feel like getting more eyes to it just yet. Felt very private over my writing this month it seems.
- This month, I asked Pillowfolks who use Discord how their instant communication have changed since February when Discord tried to implement global age verification.
- A lot of responses suggest that Discord still holds a big influence (mostly due to those who don't want to switch out) and Stoat is a close second for popular alternatives. Other users are waiting for something better than a centralized service or waiting to see if Discord does become unusable to switch. It also started some comments about forums as an alternative for communities (inspiring a post to gather some active forums) which is where I'm learning towards myself with Fluxer as an alternative for instant messaging and whatever modern communication does nowadays. The post is public for your perusal.
- Finish. That. WIP: Writer's Edition (Check in #1, Check in #2; logged-in users only)
- At the beginning of the month, I had the goal to clear some drafts from the pile and I wanted some... what's the word? Group motivation? Body doubling? Anyways, I started an event to work on WIPs. I promised weekly check ins but I quickly realized the only way that's possible is if I queue them in advance and that wasn't going to happen so I only did two. It got quite the welcome and a couple of comments on each check in so it was fun. And I did get some drafts done while others abandoned.
- I would love to say that my WIP pile is smaller but I started some WIPs so it looks kinda the same.
- Took part in the Gender Census and the Nonbinary names survey
- This lovely userbox set gave a lot of gender euphoria.
- I am making attempts to write more in my first language, Spanish.
- I have a sketch of a table comparing certain features between Dreamwidth, Pillowfort, Tumblr, and Twitter-likes that I promised to share.
